The Challenge

Due to their extensive ownership & rights over prominent sports teams, MLSE saw an opportunity to emerge into the NFT space. They wanted to build their own proprietary software to keep running costs reasonable, whilst giving users the ability to transfer NFTs onto other networks/chains.‍

Pain Points

Using another vendor, they built the Drop Shop MVP. The platform saw good engagement from users, but wasn’t built to scale, and quickly hit blockers.

With their internal team focused on developing existing products, they needed access to high quality engineering talent and efficient product management to advance this new platform.

Process and
Solution

Our goal was to help the Digital Labs team understand the longevity of their product by building out a framework for the future.

Working with Blockchain meant we had to consider the amount of risk that digital assets face. For this project, it was crucial we understood the legal requirements, risk policies, and security that was needed to build an NFT platform.

The project dictated we translate all of the editing features of the MVP to the product, without incurring any technical debt. As the MVP was still actively being worked upon, this meant constant iterations during development, and called for an agile working environment.

Our team built the platform from the ground up, using the data we collected from the MVP to remove bugs and improve UX.

Tools &
Technology

Next.js
React.js
Contentful
TypeScript
Docker
Flyway ORM
PostgreSQL
Crowdhandler
AWS
TSOA

Outcome

Despite high demand from the MLSE sales team, we were able to grasp requirements effectively and iterate on them quickly, whilst making key decisions in the strategy and implementation of this product build.

This led to our senior engineering team being able to deliver an enhanced and scalable version of their innovative NFT platform.

Impact

Our ability to pivot quickly where necessary allowed the project to remain on schedule, without depleting valuable MLSE resources. Now, armed with much more functionality than the MVP, the improved Drop Shop platform has the potential to become its own self-sustaining business unit.
